As part of the $100 Room Challenge, I'm renovating my daughter's room. I've got into a big project, but I'm very motivated and so is my daughter! 🙂

I decided to create a reading nook near the window, the details will be unveiled this Wednesday in the post of the 2nd week. For now, I'll show you how to make this small geometric lamp that will serve to light the reading nook. You still have to see your book when you read!!!

The idea came to me when my daughter showed me a SeaLemon video. Are you familiar with her? She's really great. It has great DIY videos perfect for tweens! In her video, she shows how to make geometric gems. I then used her technic to create this lamp shade.

What you'll need:

Cord set (mine is the Hemma cord set from IKEA. I originally bought it for my craft room makeover but ended up using IKEA's new Ranarp lamp instead.)
3 dowels ¼" x 48"
Spray paint (I used Krylon ColorMaster in Rose Gold and the only store I found it was at Michael's)
Glue gun and glue sticks
Cutting knife

How to make it:

First, cut the dowels:

12 pieces of 2-½"
6 pieces of 3-¾"
6 pieces of 1-⅛"
6 pieces of 7-¾"

I simply used the cutting knife to cut the dowels. Just apply the cutting knife and roll the dowel.

Note that SeaLemon cuts the dowels with a dog's nail clipper! If you have a dog, do not hesitate to use it! In my case, there was no way I would add that to my budget of $100 Room Challenge !!

I started by assembling the 3 hexagons.

Next, I added the vertical pieces.

It's certainly easier if you have someone to help you, but you can still do it by yourself.

(Yes, I'm really working on the floor! It really is worth it to make yourself a big craft table!!)

Then, once the assembly is complete, add hot glue to the joints to solidify the structure and to make a better finish when painting.

Painting

Then, it's time to paint. Not to lose time, I've also painted immediately the butterflies which I will post about later! 😛

I also painted the end of the electric cord by taking care to wrap the wire in a plastic bag. I wanted the lamp and the lamp shade to look like a whole and not two pieces put together. Does what I'm saying make sense?? Whoa, It's been a long week !!! 😛

Installation of the geometric pendant light

The new lamp shade is inserted between the two parts of the electric cord. If you do not use the same cord set, it will be important to adapt the size of the hexagon at the top.

Final result

Finally, I am very happy with the result and I think I just fell in love with the colour "Rose Gold". There will surely be other elements of this colour in the room!

The lamp is also very beautiful once turned on! Could this be a glimpse of a bench that can be seen at the bottom of the picture? 😉 To be continued with the next post about the 2nd week!
