[wc_box color="inverse" text_align="center" margin_top="" margin_bottom="" class=""] This post will tell you all about how to paint blinds for less than $10. It's so easy that it can be done in an afternoon! [/wc_box]
It's already week 3 of the $100 Room Challenge. My master bedroom is underway and I'm hoping to get everything done by next week! You can check out what I've done already or skip ahead:
Week 1 | Week 2 | Week 3 | Week 4
Last week, I stencilled the wall of the window but didn't paint anything under and above the window. Why do you say? Well, the plan is to make the window look bigger when I hang the sheer grey curtains that I already own.
For that, I need to paint the brown blinds that were hanging there or it's the only thing we're going to see through the curtains!!
How to paint blinds
You know how we can be in a hurry sometimes (well, too often!). I needed to get this done fast and there was no way I would take down my blinds piece by piece to paint it. Oh-No! So I decided to try and spray paint it!

Lucky me, it was a day almost without wind. The weather tends to be against me each time I try to spray paint!! 😛 But not today!
This is not a complicated tutorial! You just need to hang the blinds in a way to be able to open and close the blinds. Use what you have on hand. I used two trestles and some leftover wood.
And then spray until the brown is gone! In the next picture, the left side has 2 coats and the right side only one.
I let it dried a bit before closing the blinds and spraypainting again.
It took me the entire can of paint. Note that the one I had, had a bonus of "25% more" paint. In a perfect world, I would have added a third coat. But since there will be sheer curtains on top of the blinds, I don't really mind if they're not perfect. Plus, it's the $100 Room Challenge, I need to save money!
When it was all dry (at least 24 hours later) I tried scratching it with my nails and it seems pretty durable to me. I'll try to come back to this post in a year or so and update you on how it's doing!
Budget
Here is the total of my spending up to now:
- Previous weeks: $46,75
- This week for the spray paint: $6,44 (8,37$ CAD)
Total : $55,12
I still have $45 on my budget! 😀
Still to come
Now, there are still two big projects I absolutely want to make:
- Getting rid of the clear class of the French doors
- Changing the light

And don't go too far! It's already "reveal week" next Wednesday!
