How to upholster a square stool

In my craft room, I have the most un-com-fer-ta-ble stool ever made. I keep hurting myself on the corners. So decided to soften everything up 😉

For the One Room Challenge, I'm giving some love (and hard work) to my craft room. You can see recap of the past weeks here

Week 1 | Week 2 | Week 3 | Week 4 | Week 5 | Week 6

Upholster what? Up-hols-ter!! Yeah, lucky for me, I only have to write it and not pronounce it! You would love my french accent right now!!! 😏

Here what you need to *cover with foam and fabric* this stool :

DIY | Stool | square | cover | fabric | dark blue | comfortable | easy | tutorial

  • 100% polyester fabric (I had plenty for 2 stools with ½ meter)
  • batting
  • foam
  • staple gun
  • staples

Note that when I opened the bag of batting, it was not really what I though it would be. The lady in the store sold me Polyester fiberfill and told me it would do (Note to myself : never trust the lady in the store, trust your instinct!)

Since I didn't want to go all the way back, I made with it!! It wasn't that bad. It was a bit more fluffy!

How to do it :

Cut the foam to the exact size of the stool
I double the "wannabe batting" to make it thicker.

Staple it all around

Measure the fabric so it fits when you fold it.

Since you're gonna fold it just like that, it doesn't matter if it a little bit bigger, you'll just fold more.

I started by the two long sides.

Once they were done, I flipped it over to make sure it was straight (the fabric I chose was not the easiest one to cover a square stool. I hat to make sure the lines were parallel to the stool.

For the corners, I didn't do anything fancy, just continued folding. Remember I wanted them soft, no hard corners!

The finished project :

I'm quite happy about it and so is my behind! 😯
