Learn what to do and most importantly, what not to do to make beautiful faux leather and Iron-on earrings for Valentine's Day
Today, I offer you a free SVG file including, not one, but 4 pairs of Valentine's Day earrings. They are made from faux leather and HTV and super easy to make.
DIY Valentine's Day earrings
To make them, I will refer you to the video of the festive earrings that I made during my 12 Christmas Crafts challenge.
But just before, I have important tips that I want to mention because often we learn a lot more from our mistakes and oh did I make some!!

Materials and tools required
- A way to cut your faux leather and vinyl (I have the Cricut Maker but the Explore Air 2 is fine also)
- The fine point blade (that's the regular blade that comes with the Cricut).
- Easy Press (whatever the size, even the mini can be fine)
- Cricut protective sheet (discontinued) or Cookina Teflon sheet.
- HTV vinyl (the one I use in the video is Cricut Iron-on Foil Red)
- Faux leather in red (I bought mine at a local fabric store and it costs me not event 2$ for 10 cm x 54")
- Cricut Faux leather, black (this is the bundle I have)
- Jewelry pliers
- Fishhook earring findings and jump rings

Important to know when making DIY earrings
What Cricut blade cuts faux leather?
Do you know that you don't need a special blade to cut faux leather? That's right! You just need the regular fine point blade that can be used in both Cricut Maker, Explore Air or even the Cricut Joy!
Test the cut setting
Always, always test the cut setting before cutting a new material or even when using a material that you haven't cut in a while (the wear of your blade might be different than the last time you used it!)

Which mat should you use to cut faux leather?
In the first faux leather earring tutorial I made, I was telling you that the purple mat was way too sticky. Well, when you have small details to cut as these earrings have, you really need to have a mat that sticks a lot.
Therefore, you should really choose the strong grip mat (purple).
When I tried with the green mat, it didn't cut all the way through because the faux leather lifted from the mat. Maybe my green mat just needed to be cleaned. Whatever mat you take, make sure it is sticky enough!
Pay attention to the adhesive tape
The margin Design Space leaves you is ¼". This is not a lot of space to add masking tape.
Make sure you don't go over this margin with your masking tape otherwise, the faux leather might not be cut all the way through (lesson learned!).
Can you engrave faux leather?
Although Cricut states that the engraving tip will engrave faux leather, they are mostly talking about Cricut brand faux leather. Engraving this faux leather (that I bought at a fabric store) didn't work well at all!
