My son loves everything video game related. When he was little, I had a “stars and moon” theme going on in his bedroom. So, instead of getting rid of the IKEA star wall lamps, I decided to transform them!

What you’ll need:
- IKEA Smila Stjärna wall lamp
- Krylon Color Master, colour Sun Yellow spray paint
- Black and white acrylic paint
- Small paint brush
- LED Nightlight bulb (this is way less watt (or lumen) than recommended by IKEA but I really wanted nightlights)

How to make the Super Mario Bros Star
Remove the star from the back (where the light bulb is). On paper journal, lay down the star. Spray as many coats as necessary to hide the blue (for me, it was 3 coats). Don’t forget to let the paint dry between each coat. You should do this ideally outside or in a well-vented area.
You don’t even need to paint the back of the star.
Using a small paintbrush, paint eyes with black and white acrylic paint, taking the time to let the paint dry between the black and the white.
And voilà! Simple and cheap! Can you ask for anything better?
As you can see, it makes really great nightlights. And since the bulbs are LED, they don’t get hot so no need to worry about fumes from the spray paint.

Such a cute idea. My boys had these lights when they were small (they are very big now!) and would have loved this.
